  1. Why are there so many data access modes?

    Up until version 2005 of QuickBooks®, our QB Direct File Mode was the easiest method to use. You just pointed Qxtender at your company data file and the necessary data was read directly from the file. But due to a major change in QB's underlying data engine initiated with version 2006, QB Direct File Mode is not possible with version 2006 and later data files. Our new Direct Modes -- QB Integrated Application Mode and QB Application Controller mode -- are in response to this change.

    QB Integrated Application mode is the best mode to use for version 2006 and later.
    However, some data is not available via the SDK, such as Leads, yet the QB App Controller can get at it.

    Another reason for multiple data modes is to ensure that you can always use a plugin, even if the preferred mode is not functioning. Though not as easy to use, Export Mode is not subject to as many potential problems as the various Direct Modes. For instance, upgrade patches from Intuit have the potential to interfere with the operation of the Direct Modes.

  2. Printing results in a blank page or a cryptic error message.

    Some printer drivers cause problems for Qxtender's printer setup. Open the Print Setup dialog (found on Qxtender's File menu). Set the "Plugin" to the Plugin you are currently using. Then, check the box next to "Do not apply these settings to printer (use printer's defaults)". Click the "OK" button to apply the change and try printing again. If this fixes the problem, be sure to make the same printer setup change for each Plugin that exhibits this problem.
